It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that all reasonable precautions are taken to keep employees safe in the workplace and due diligence requires more than checking off a list of safety courses. To ensure that employees stay safe, MidSouthWest recommends that employers and workers participate in regular refresher training classes even if it is not mandated by the MOL. Refresher training can help remind employees of safe practices and prevent bad habits from creeping into the workplace. |

Minimum requirements
The MOL requires that all workers complete Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) training and basic occupational health and safety training – including temporary staff, seasonal workers and volunteers.
Workplace violence and harassment training is required for workplaces with more than 5 regular employees, and Joint Health and Safety Committee member certification is required for workplaces with 20 more employees.
All workers who work at heights on construction sites are required to complete Working at Heights Training (including refresher training every 3 years). Equipment training course are required for workers who operate equipment such as lift trucks, aerial lifts or cranes. MidSouthWest recommends that managers and supervisors also complete equipment operation training courses so that they are knowledge about safe operation and can provide competent supervision.
