Setting safety resolutions send the message that safety matters
2022 was quite a year; however, it’s almost 2023, so it’s time to look forward to what’s ahead! It went by so fast, that it’s hard to imagine it’s already that time again when we set organizational safety intentions aimed at helping us be the best we can be in the coming year. At MidSouthWest Safety Training and Consulting, we believe that setting safety intentions sets the tone for the entire year.
Why set safety resolutions?
Not sure where to start? We’ve listed some safety intentions for 2023 below. |
Our Top 5 Safety Resolutions for 2023
|
Make 2023 the year that all your employees take the training required to keep them compliant, safe, and well at work.
Resolution 1: Support the Right to DisconnectMore than ever, workers are looking for a work-life balance that delineates the time at work from the time at home with their families. Employers can help them achieve that balance by supporting their right to disconnect. On June 2, 2022, employers had to have created and implemented a written policy supporting workers’ rights to disconnect outside of working hours, with a few exceptions. Having a policy isn’t enough. In 2023, commit to ensuring that your employees are complying, that you’re complying, and that you’re encouraging workers to take that much-needed time away to recharge so that they bring their best selves forward when it’s time for work. Resolution 2: Ramp Up WellnessThis year, resolve to focus on the recovery of your people. Workers continue to endure through the COVID-19 pandemic, and they’re faced now with having to work understaffed in almost every industry and the looming labour shortage doesn’t appear to be easing any time soon. The pandemic and the staffing shortages caused workers a lot of stress last year. Resolve to help employees work through their stress in 2023.
Consider what wellness benefits you can add to your program to help employees:

Resolution 3: Support Remote Workers – They’re here to StayThis year, you may need to create new policies and procedures and put new safety practices into place to cover remote workers. Remote work is here to stay, and just because they’re working at home doesn’t mean that remote workers aren’t covered by the health and safety program, or that they’re not at risk.
Be sure that they know how to set up a remote workstation follow ergonomic best practices, and that their home workspaces are safe. |
Resolution 4: Motivate your JHSCA motivated Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) is an effective JHSC! Resolve this year to ensure that your JHSC is motivated and that they’re operating at peak efficiency.
Having an effective JHSC has numerous benefits, such as:
Your organization can expect to see a positive impact on the bottom line as a result of reduced lost time, increased productivity, and a happy and healthy workforce. Keep your JHSC motivated this year by setting goals and offering incentives to give them something to work toward. And don’t forget to reward the JHSC for their hard work and efforts! Resolution 5: Never Stop LearningMake 2023 the year that all your employees take the training required to keep them compliant, safe, and well at work. This may include getting workers re-trained or re-certified if their training has expired, providing new or updated training to all employees, or committing to getting all JHSC members certified.
