Employers in Ontario are required to post health and safety information in a prominent location in the workplace. There are 8 things that every company should have posted on the Health and Safety Bulletin Board. In this article we've included a summary of the essentials components, as well 4 additional recommended items, and included links to free downloads.
1. Employment Standards in Ontario poster
Employers are required to post the most recent version of the Ministry of Labour’s “Employment Standards in Ontario” poster in at least one location in the workplace. The MOL updates this poster regularly and it is essential for you to ensure that you have the most recent version (version 8, as of February 2019). Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (The Green Book)
The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requires that employers post a copy of the OHSA at their workplace. You can print a copy of the OHSA from Service Ontario’s website or you can purchase a copy. |
3. Health & Safety at Work: Prevention Starts Here poster
The OHSA requires that all provincially-regulated workplace display this poster. It outlines the rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers, as well as displays the Ministry of Labour’s phone number to report critical injuries (1-877-202-0008).

4. Your Company’s Health and Safety Policy
The OHSA requires that all employers prepare a 1 page health and safety policy that states:
Your Health and Safety Policy should be revised, dated and signed every 12 months. You can visit the Ministry of Labour website for guidelines for how to develop a company Health and Safety Policy. |
5. Workplace Violence and Harassment Policies
The OHSA requires that employers prepare and review a Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy at least once every 12 months. The policies must be in writing and posted in the workplace for all workplaces with more than 5 employees (unless ordered by an inspector). You can visit the Ministry of Labour website for guidelines for how to prepare Workplace Violence and Harassment Policies. 6. WSIB In Case of Injury poster Also known as the “1-2-3-4 poster”, the WSIB’s In Case of Injury poster (Form 82) is required to be displayed prominently, as outlined in the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 (WSIA). 7. Joint Health and Safety Committee Members' names and locations
Workplaces with 20 or more employees are required to have a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) with at least 2 certified members (1 certified member representing workers and 1 certified member representing management). The names and work locations of the committee members should be posted in a conspicuous place. The dates of upcoming JHSC meetings and minutes from past meetings can also be posted. Names and locations of certified First Aiders Knowing the names and locations of Certified First Aiders can save help to save a life in an emergency situation. All employers covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act are required to have first aid equipment, facilities and trained personnel in all workplaces.
