JHSC Refresher Training: One 6.5 hr class every 3 years to maintain your Certification
JHSC Refresher training was established by Ontario's Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) as one part of Ontario's new JHSC certification training program. The new standards came into effect on March 1, 2016, but there are provisions for individuals who have completed JHSC training under the old standards.
JHSC members who completed training on/after March 1, 2016 have to complete a 1 day (6.5 hr) JHSC Refresher Training every 3 years. JHSC Refresher Training can be completed at one of our Open Class locations across Ontario. Frequently asked questions about JHSC Refresher Training:

Do JHSC members trained prior to March 1, 2016 need Refresher Training?
Depending on which JHSC training classes were completed prior to March 1, 2016, JHSC members might require Refresher Training.
The 2016 Certification Standards require a JHSC Refresher course to be completed every 3 years but no Refresher Training is required for employees who have completed both JHSC Part I and Part II courses based on the 1996 Certification Standards (the 1996 Certification Standards are "grandfathered in").

Can I get an exemption from taking Refresher Training?
Yes. A certified member may request a one-time exemption from Refresher Training if they are an active member (must have engaged as a member of the JHSC within the past 12 months). This exemption would extend the required period for JHSC Refresher Training by an additional three years for the active member. Certified members need to request an extension from the MOL.
What happens if I do not take Refresher Training within three years?
If you do not take a JHSC Refresher Training program within three years of completing JHSC Part 2, and you did not receive a one-time exemption, your certification may be revoked by the CPO. If your certification is revoked, you will have to attend JHSC Part I & II certification 5 day course again, in order to be re-certified.
