The importance of Human Resources training & development
Training and development are essential to support your organization’s strategic growth. Development, management, implementation and monitoring of employee training and career development is important for employee satisfaction and growing organizational capabilities.
Human resources (HR) professionals have a particularly important role in an organization because they are involved in the hiring and training of employees, monitoring of policies, and handling disputes. Investing in training your HR team will benefit the entire company! |

The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) recommends a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program for its members to ensure that they have the knowledge and expertise expected of them. HRPA designations require members to participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance their capabilities as HR practitioners, contribute to the acquisition of knowledge, build familiar with HR issues, reinforce essential skills related to HR practice and contribute to the development of new skills to enhance performance as an HR professional.
MidSouthWest Training and Consulting offers more than 45 courses that qualify for HRPA CPD hours. Learn more about how to submit training courses for CPD points. |
Training vs. Development
Training

Development
Focused on personal growth of the employee Ongoing, continuous process Result of employees’ internal motivation Encouraged and supported by Management |
5 benefits of training
- Sourcing skills internally is cheaper than hiring from outside. Hiring for a junior position and providing training lowers recruiting costs and ensure that employee skills are aligned with company roles and goals.
- It is simpler and faster to promote an internal candidate that you’ve trained than to search for an external candidate with the necessary skills.
- Promoting training and development increases employee job satisfaction and engagement.
- Creating a culture of learning and training in the workplace promotes a positive, collaborative and innovative environment that can create a sustainable competitive advantage.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities can be publicized as an important perk of the company’s compensation program and used to attract and retain talent.

An activity does not need to be preapproved for you to include it in your log. For an activity to be appropriate for your CPD there must be a direct and describable link between the content of the activity and how it furthers your ability as an HR practitioner. If you can articulate this link, then consider including the activity in your log.
